Peter L. Powers is a New York and LA based Composer, Music Director, and performer whose work spans Broadway, international stages, and the silver screen. With over 30 years of professional experience, Peter brings a rare versatility to every project — from crafting original film scores to directing live productions and performing on world-class stages across 14 countries.

As a composer, Peter creates original music for film, television, and visual media, drawing on a musical language shaped by decades of work across gospel, jazz, pop, and theatre. His scoring work includes the 2022 feature film After The Wait, an Official Selection of the Christian Family Film Festival.

As a Music Director, Peter leverages a deep network of professional musicians to build and lead bands, negotiate rates, and produce the live infrastructure needed for seamless performance — including playback and click tracks for in-ear monitor systems. His Broadway credits include Hot Feet at the Hilton Theater and productions at Ars Nova Theater, 37 Arts, and the Kumble Theater.

Peter's musical roots run deep. Raised in the church, he began formal piano and theory studies at 12, and by 14 had found his voice on the bass — inspired by the funky grooves of James Brown. He went on to study jazz theory under pianist Jon Cowherd and trained privately with jazz legend John Patitucci at The Bass Collective in New York City, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Piano Performance from The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music.
